Betun-Timor Project Tripartite Agreement Signing

On March 5, 2026, Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) Indonesia signed a tripartite cooperation agreement with PT Indika Empat Mitra Timor (EMITS), PT Indika Tenaga Megah (ITM), and Synkrona to support the feasibility study of a clean energy initiative in Eastern Indonesia.

The agreement covers the preparation of a 10.6 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project combined with a 4.5 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), located in Betun, Kafamenanu, and Atambua, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.

Through the Sustainable Banking Hub (SBH), CPI Indonesia continues to strengthen sustainable finance by enhancing financial literacy and inclusion, providing a collaborative platform for regulators and industry stakeholders, and supporting the development of market-based financial instruments.

As part of efforts to mobilize private sector investment for the energy transition, SBH delivers its Project Preparation Facility (PPF), which offers due diligence support to improve project readiness and attract commercial financing. This support is expected to enhance project bankability, unlock broader financing opportunities, and accelerate the development of clean energy projects across Indonesia.

Looking Ahead

Building on this support, SBH will continue to expand its pipeline of project preparation activities, with a focus on scalable renewable energy solutions in underserved regions, particularly in Eastern Indonesia. By leveraging insights generated through the PPF, CPI Indonesia aims to inform more effective risk-sharing mechanisms, strengthen collaboration between project developers and financial institutions, and identify replicable models for similar projects across the country.

In parallel, SBH will further engage regulators, banks, and industry stakeholders to translate these lessons into practical financial instruments and policy recommendations. This forward-looking approach is intended to accelerate the flow of private capital into sustainable energy projects, while ensuring that investments are both commercially viable and aligned with Indonesia’s long-term climate and development goals.
